Q. How do you like your offensive line at this point?
A. They continue to be a work in progress. I see them coming along. They have great pride and everyday is an opportunity to get better. Now we just need to continue to focus on the small details. Low pad level, getting in great game shape. I like it and I think we are progressing well and on schedule right now.
The big thing again will be that dreaded word of depth. We have to have some younger players step up and provide some depth at that spot.
Q. What does Alex Hoffman mean to your offensive line?
A. What Zach means to the quarterback spot Alex means everything to our offensive line. He is a leader on and off the field. He has great expectations not only for himself but the entire offensive line. He is a leader but not just a leader within the offensive line. He is a leader amongst the entire football team. He is what we strive for a Bearcat to be. Just everything he embodies on and off the field.
Q. Was there any risk involved in asking Walter Stewart to beef up and play down?
A. No. When you look at his frame can he carry and manage the weight? We educated him on great eating habits and he has a great work ethic. He has done a great job and can't say enough about Walt. He can handle the weight and can probably handle about 10 more pounds. He takes great pride in his weight. He is always pointing out his weight in training camp because we weigh in and out.
Q. Are you more frustrated of disappointed with your quarterbacks at this point?
A. Not frustrated at all. I knew it was going to be an on going process. Everyday is an opportunity for them to learn and take a step further. Those are all competitive individuals. It's a process they are going through. Some
of them may have to develop faster then what we like, but it is what it is. I'm not discouraged at all we all knew it was going to be a process.
Q. Damien Julian was in a walking boot today what is his diagnosis?
A. He sprained his ankle. So we expect to have him back in 2-3 days. He is an individual that has been really making great strides for us. We need to get him back and game ready.
Q. With all the talk about realignment do you feel the Big East needs to make a big move to get more quality teams in the conference?
A. Well I know we have a great conference and great leadership. I know we are exploring options of what we want to do and the best interests for the entire Big East conference. I think we will a very markable conference. In terms of will there be institutions that will want to be a part of this great conference. I will leave that up to them. I'm a firm believer in you can only control what you control. The only thing we can control is getting our football team ready to compete for a Big East conference championship.
