CINCINNATI – The undefeated University of Cincinnati men’s basketball team earned a No. 8 ranking in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches poll released on Monday.
The rankings are the highest during head coach Mick Cronin’s seven years at Cincinnati and the highest since the 10th week of the 2003-04 season when the Bearcats were listed seventh by the USA Today Coaches poll and eighth by the Associated Press poll.
The Bearcats are off to a 12-0 start for only the eighth time in school history but the second time under Cronin. UC won its first 15 games of the 2010-11 campaign en route to a 26-9 overall mark and the school’s first NCAA tournament appearance under Cronin.
UC is coming off a 68-58 win over Wright State on Saturday at Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats play host to New Mexico (12-1) on Dec. 27. The Lobos were ranked 16th in the nation before being surprised by South Dakota State 70-65 on Saturday at The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M. The Lobos are listed just outside the Top 25 in both polls, first among others receiving votes.
