Kiel has a past relationship with Cincinnati QBs coach Darin Hinshaw.
Former Notre Dame quarterback Gunner Kiel confirmed with 247Sports that he is transferring to Cincinnati.
The five-star quarterback out of Columbus (Ind.) East left the Irish program on March 19. He did not play in a game this past fall as a true freshman.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Kiel visited the Bearcats campus over Easter Weekend for a scrimmage. He also considered Ball State and Miami (Ohio) among several other programs.
Ranked as the nation's No. 1 quarterback according to the 247Composite in 2012, Kiel formed a good relationship with Cincinnati quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw while going through the recruiting process in high school when Hinshaw was at Tennessee.
Kiel was a U.S. Army All-American coming out of high school. He threw for 7,362 yards and 89 touchdowns in three years as the starting quarterback at Columbus East.
