Cincinnati traveled to Notre Dame Sunday afternoon for a showdown on CBS vs. the No. 25 Fighting Irish. It is a trip that the Bearcats will want to forget, and it was the first time this year that Cincinnati was completely out classed and blown out. Notre Dame dominated the whole game and finished off the Bearcats 62-41.
Notre Dame took a huge lead into half as they were up 29 to 15 behind incredibly efficient offense and a stingy defense. Cincinnati only had 7 field goals, and Shaquille Thomas was the only Bearcat player shooting over 50% from the field.
Cooley, Knight, and Connaughton each had 6 points at half for the Fighting Irish. Zach Auguste came off the bench for a huge 8 rebounds in the first half (21 total for ND), nearly totaling Cincinnati’s 9 team rebounds. Cincinnati’s starters had one rebound in the first half.
The second half was more of the same for Notre Dame, they finished off the Bearcats with a team effort on offense and great defense. Four Notre Dame players finished in double figures while Parker was the lone Bearcat with 12 points.
Notre Dame completely dominated every aspect of this game as they out rebounded the Bearcats 41 to 25, out assisted the Bearcats 18 to 5, and outshot the Bearcats 47% to 31%. Cashmere Wright was 0-2 from the field and Sean Kilpatrick was 3-13 from the field. Thomas and Rubles each had 7 points off the bench.
Cincinnati now heads home to try to end this skid and faces Connecticut again on Saturday at 2pm. The Bearcats are now 19-9 and 7-8 in the Big East.
