Jones agrees to contract extension

University of Cincinnati head football coach Butch Jones has agreed to terms on a six year contract extension according to source familiar with the negations.

In his second year Jones lead the Bearcats to a 9-3 record and their third Big East Championship in four years. The Bearcats will take on Vanderbilt in the Autozone Liberty Bowl on December 31st.

According to multiple sources Jones turned down multiple offers from other BCS programs to remain at Cincinnati.

When contacted Saturday night Cincinnati Director of Athletics Whit Babcock stated, "We are extremely glad Butch is our football coach, he has shown he wants to be here, and we want him here for a long time. He fits the brand of UC Athletics and is a great builder of young men."

Jones is expected to sign his new contract after the Cincinnati Board of Trustees approve it at their next meeting on January 24th, 2012.
