A & M to the SEC has serious legs

  • How about Memphis , Kansas, or Kansas state joining big east?

    pead_on23

  • If the big east is reactive we are one of the schools that could get left without a chair. We don't have an AD, we have a 35k football stadium and had our baskeball stands 1/2 full. We only bring in a few secondary sports as well. Our budget is very small and our debt is high. We have a lot to offer in media market, location and recent and past success.

I really hope we can be proactive here or we may be left out.

  • Big East should have taken money. ACC about to rape conference again! My prediction is we lose Syracuse and Pittcry

  • I think that it is HIGHLY unlikely that we are a team that gets dropped. We have a football and bball program. Our football program has 2 league championships in the past 5 years.

Agree... people seem to only be thinking about the potential negatives of all this... I think UC is okay... yes there are issues but the 'Cats bring a ton to the table too... even things like our brand new practice facility do nothing but help... as for having a "35k stadium"... that's only half true since the 'Cats are playing a 1/3 of their home games this year at 66,000 seat PBS.

  • Many posts in this thread are symptomatic of what's wrong with the BE. Some don't realize that our position is stronger than it has been in the past. Without FSU and Clemson, the ACC will have been taken down a notch or two as a football conference. I just hope the schools themselves aren't echoing such an attitude.

I think the though process is that schools chose to be in the ACC instead of the Big East last time and even though the ACC wouldn't be as desirable it would still have the Big East members of the past.

  • VaTech is the only ACC school I could see leaving, Mike Slive will not try and add a school if more than 1 current SEC school doesnt want them to be added. UF, UGA, and USC will band together to keep FSU, Clemson, and GT out.

I also think some need to calm down a bit, this all is very fluid and in UC's case there isnt really anything they can do right now.

I dont know any of this as fact but if OU and Texas stay together I dont see the B12 going away, if SEC adds TAM and VaTech the ACC would add 1 school....say its any BE school, I dont think that really has a major impact...The B10 has said over the last day they are done w/ expansion and happy where they are. This is just like last time...everyone thought it was going to be Armageddon and 3 teams switched leagues.

And i'll just add this for shits and giggles...2 min ago

@PeteThamelNYT: A DIFFERENT high ranking SEC official just called to say (angrily) that any report involving Clemson, FSU and Missouri is totally wrong.

  • Here's some more and I actually found #6 the most interesting...

    6. Could the SEC's leverage with the ACC teams in North Carolina and Virginia improve by waiting?

Let me just say this -- and I'll expand upon it next week -- the ACC is not as stable as some of y'all think.

And it may not be the SEC that's causing all the instability.

I'm not even convinced that the ACC will just "snatch up" a BE school. But I don't read the minds of these school prez/ADs, so nothing will surprise me.

  • Once the Big East strikes it's new TV deal- hopefully relatively soon, that will also boost the leagues attractiveness both to current members and any outsiders.

AD's don't make these types of decisions, the Presidents do.

  • Keep in mind academics play a major part in any conference affiliation and UC has a very good academic profile.

    How about this conference..

    UC
    UL
    Va Tech
    UVA
    WVU
    BC
    UNC
    Duke
    Rutgers
    Pitt
    Cuse
    UCONN
    Houston
    TCU

  • So basically the BE is going to be dismantled? G'Town, SJU, etc. are gone?

  • Andy Staples just reported that the meeting at TAMU on Mon will not finalize the deal. it's simply the regents giving the President the ok to negotiate entry.

The basketball in a conference like that would be ridiculous. It would also be a solid football conference. Regardless the Big East football schools and the Acc would be a great fit if the realignment and conference raiding kicks into high gear.

ADs still have to have a big role. Either that or Bob Goin gets too much credit for it. Of course I think Williams > Zimpher (and maybe a little Steger if that is when it started) when it comes to this.

Not as big of a role as you would think. At the end of the day it comes down to the University Presidents.

  • I assume this thought about a new conference formation would be in reaction to the SEC moving to 14. I believe this whole thing could get real intense. If the SEC moves to 14 why wouldn't everyone else try an follow.
An Todd did you mean to list USF and UCF? Instead of USF twice...

I think the big fear is if the SEC is going to 14 why wouldn't they go to 16. Seems 16 would work better.

  • Not sure if this is just smoke being blown but it was just reported that A&M moving is now less than 50/50 to happen. This was due to the impending lawsuit for breaking the TV deal and the political pressures.

There is a reason they are called the Aggies. A & M should have left last year. Leaving the SEC at the altar for a 2nd time will not bode well with the SEC. Along with the impending lawsuit, it would have to pay massive penalies for leaving, and an entry fee to the SEC. But evidently, A & M alums are ready to pony up for these costs.

This expansion crap is really tiresome. Time to turn off twitter.
