I wish he had more college experience and i was skeptical on the development of the DBs but no matter who is coach we need him at least for the next five years to lead us into a new conference because i believe thats are window to go to a relevant conference.
Anyway thats my opinion! I respect all of your opinions also. Do not hate this man because he coached at colerain or a non gcl school. im only a bearcat fan and dont really follow high school football so im not a colerain homer and want whats best for my Cats.

Too crucial a time to take a gamble like this.
But a MAC coach isn't a gamble...
I believe you said you played for Combs, correct? How would you rate him on Xs and Os? Game day strategy?
Also, assume you were not a DB?
He is not ready.
Oakley, worked out ok so far, at least have led programs.

A MAC coach with a proven record would be less of a risk than someone like Kerry with no track record.
As for "hating" Kerry, I knew him when he was a student. I followed him his whole career at Colerain. My brother thinks Kerry is the best coach in high school history. I don't hate Kerry. I just think it's too big a gamble.
GO BEARCATS!! FIGHT!!! FIGHT!!!! FIGHT!!!!!
All the good Mac coaches have been hired already, so your getting leftovers, so these aren't the best ones
Dont agree about mac guys and even if true would still be preferable to kc at this point
Well hire Lembo or Clawson and see what happens with season tickets....
Granted it's a roll of the dice, but never discount the knowledge of someone 50ish. I know that well ;)
You could do much worse. He's not your average assistant that needs a bunch of resume building. The Faust comparison isn't even close to fair. While I understand a coordinating/HC gig might be the standard formula, why think like everybody else? In years of coaching, he's heads above some of the marquees names. I like some of the other names too, but I'm not convinced that they could do much better in three years. I am convinced this trend needs to stop and I don't think the program goes down if he were hired. The issue is who will give him the chance?
Oak, hire coombs and see what happens to program
yes i played for him for 3 years. I played dline. He was very engaged on defense. We ran a 50 defense with a focus on stopping the run with great dline and linebacker play. He obviously couldnt run that in college we would get burnt by the pass. He is not dumb im sure he is taking notes from some pretty damn good coaches.
offensively he was not as engaged, but i do think he has learned under bk, Butch, and urban to run the spread. the option is not happening in college he knows that and im sure he will not bring in any high school coaches to coach. The man knows football and He can come up with a great game plan with the best of them.
Like i said ideally it would be nice to have him gain more experience and transition him in. I think X's and O's and coming up with a gameplan was a strong suit of his. He always had us prepared. Like i said im a bearcat fan first and foremost and i really dont follow high school ball much so i am not a colerain homer at all.
K how about we take my coach and your coach and they have a tug of war and whoever wins is the next coach :)........
I was on the fence about Coombs but you make a lot of great points and the players do love and respect him, and I've seen on twitter that he knows how to get the best out of his players
University of Cincinnati class of '14
Whoever is left 'holding the rope'?

I also agree the Gerry Faust comparison isn't a fair comparison. If I remember correctly Faust tried to go from the GCL directly to Notre Dame without any college experience. Coombs has 6 years of college experience and has learned quite a bit about what is needed to be successfull at this level. He may or may not get the job but I bet if he is hired the people who are passionately against him today will be his greatest supporters once he gets you running through that brick wall.
If we hire Coombs without proving he can handle head coaching duties, then we have determined that we are small time imo.
Because they were the head coach of their program
The number one criteria for hiring a coach should be he's qualified and the best coach available not that he won't leave.
They may have wanted him on their staffs for recruiting but neither Kelly, Meyer or Jones promoted him either. That speaks volumes. If he was a great defensive mind he'd have been promoted to DC by one of them. None of them did.
