Was just curious as to who here will be rooting for the ol ball coach. Or against him...
Or has it been so long that nobody really cares much either way anymore...
Gringo Mafia Sergeant at Arms - 5 time POTW
Against. Just because I can. Well not JUST because I can but that is one reason.
Against just because i grew up not liking ND, don't have anything against Brian Kelly leaving for a top tier program.
Against ND. Agnostic to the current coach.
Against not because he left, but because how he left and how he treated those players... I'm so disappointed in these coaches and there lack of caring for their players
Against ND, but rooting against Kelly doesn't pose a problem either.
Against ND. Never like ND before Kelly went there...
I guess I'm in the minority. I'll be rooting for him and ND. Don't like how he left town, that much is true, but I can't deny that he helped the program more than he hurt it. That and I'm tired of Saban's ugly mug.
against - the only guy more arrogant than Notre Dame
Steve Spurrier? Why would I root against him?
GO BEARCATS!! FIGHT!!! FIGHT!!!! FIGHT!!!!!
I have mixed emotions, I do not like ND, hate the arrogant attitude of the alumni. I do support BK, hated the way he left but he did great good for UC. And I despise Alabama, so I will be rooting for ND, albeit reluctantly
On a serious note... Does anyone ever go onto the Irish board and ask stupid questions like--
"Are you rooting for or against Charlie Weis???"
"Are you rooting for or against Bob Davie???"
What does that tell you?
PS. I frankly could care less about any of our former coaches who left to coach in Indiana or Michigan. They could win BCS games or lose them and it has NO impact on the price of gas or anything else... I do root for Rick Minter when he pops up and I pull hard for Tim Murphy. But that's about it. And I don't lose any sleep over them either...
Those guys were fired. BK left us. Its a completely different situation.
Been rooting against ND since birthday, nothing changed with BK went there
I don't disagree, though I think Murphy left on his own...
I truly feel Minter gave us everything he had. He quite literally took this team as far as he could... I find it hard not to appreciate that even though I agreed with him being let go. Pretty much the same with Murphy, who was working in a very limited and advesarial environment.
And yeah, Dantonio and Kelly left the program better (though Kelly left the cupboard bare) than they found it. But they chose to leave rather than to stay and invest. Fine. That's their choice and I don't begrudge it. But I really don't have any investment...either way... in them either.
They did what they were paid to do. Now they do it somewhere else.
EDIT---I reread your question and I think I see what you're getting at... But still, the fact that Charlie and Bob got fired is still roughly equivalent to the fact that they are former coaches... If Kansas or New Mexico gets to the BCS championship game in the future, I will still think it's a stupid question to go on the ND site and ask whether the Irish fans are rooting for or against Charlie or Bob...

Roll Tide Roll!
Why is that such a stupid question? Brian Kelly took Cincinnati to places they've never been before and probably ever will. Are you that mad he left your team?
Damn dude. I mean seriously what would you have done if you were him?
Do you think that asking if UC fans are rooting for one coach who left while another coach is in the process of possibly leaving might be considered in bad taste? Have a nice night and Roll Tide
Not really. Brian Kelly is your Knute Rockne. Cincinnati football reached its pinnacle during the Kelly years. He took you guys to places you'll never be again. Now if you were to come to out board and ask about Weis nobody would care because he didn't take us anywhere. We don't wish Weis good or bad...just goodbye see ya later.
But with BK he put Cincinnati football on the map, but at the same time the way he left was shotty. Just curious who here is torn and if you're rooting for him or not.
Roll Tide Roll!!!!
It's not that he left, we all understand why he left. It's HOW he left. He lied to his players faces, he told the media before he told the team, he bailed on an undefeated 3rd ranked team before the sugar bowl.
I'm rooting for him to get the std's cured. Go Brian!
