DeCoursey in my view nails it

  • That maybe true, but the game day atmosphere will suffer in other ways. (e.g 40K in a 65K stadium, reduced student attendance, etc.). There is something special about being on campus.

  • I am willing to wait and see what the plans are before I come to any conclusions. pray

Personally, I prefer games on campus but lets see what they have.

  • UC plays at Nippert- of our 14 season tickets nobody wants to play at PBS. awful setting.

    nippert is special

  • Bad site lines..... Maybe I am crazy but I feel like I have sat in every section/angle possible in Nippert and I have repeatedly commented I didn't think there was a bad seat in the house.

  • I like Decoursey but he is a basketball guy. I trust that Whit and Ono know a little bit more what they need to do to appease the ACC.

  • Timeline of events-Raise money for new basketball arena. Build it where nippert is currently. Move football to PBS. Raise money for new football stadium. Move football into new stadium.

  • If you are going to do PBS, here are my thoughts on this.

Come out with a plan to build a new stadium (do not even care if this is possible or not)
    - If you come out and have plans to do this, then it puts pressure on Mike Brown to actually negotiate and gives you leverage
    - If you put a plan, fan base might by into it.

Either way you put some vision into what you are doing and exciting a fan base. If you can get better facilities than what the pro team has in town, how wouldn't that put pressure on him to deal with us. Once you put a deal in place, you agree to the following:
    Fix the sponsorships
Put a kids zone in one of the parking lots or by the stadium need this for the family affect.
Shuttle students from campus area to PBS - eliminates drunk driving and gets more kids to the game.
Put an area that is dedicated for a cat walk, maybe on 3rd street or on PRW. Close it down for the UC team walk to the game. Get the fans involved.
During UC games, spray our logo, not the Bengals in the endzones. Really don't care if we piss MB off, but demand it .

  • What if our future conference consists of the Big East teams of last year (without West Virginia and Rutgers) plus Wake Forest, Boston College, Duke and Virginia (or some form of ACC leftovers). Is there really a need with that schedule to move every game to Paul Brown Stadium. We can't sell out Nippert consistently with that schedule now so when we add the bottome feeders of the ACC will attendance increase that much to warrant a move to PBS?? I can see renovating Nippert and taking our big non-conference games to PBS just like we do now. As far as making us attractive to the Big 12, based on a lot of peoples views it doesn't seem like that is an option for UC. If moving to PBS means the Big 12 will invite us then you absolutely make the switch but if you are in a conference that is a merger of the old Big East with the leftovers of the ACC then I don't know if the demand will be there for increased capacity.

Monkey, there is nothing that UC can do to "put pressure on Mike Brown" and "give us leverage." The Bengals lease agreement essentially gives them ownership of PBS. The get to approve events that are held there, they receive a lions' share of the revenue of parking and concessions, and they get the revenue from the club seats and luxury suites.

In order to play our games there, we are going to have to make some significant changes in our sponsorship agreements because of the differences with PBS concessions - Gold Star is the preferred chili instead of Skyline; Pepsi instead of Coke; and Donatos pizza instead of LaRosa's. Mikey isn't likely to allow us to have those in any permanent arrangement based on not being able to have them in the few games we palyed there already. That is the biggest reason why we lost money on the games we played at PBS in 2011.

I think there is a major announcement regarding facilities coming out of the BOT meeting Tuesday. Dr. Ono has been alluding to big news coming for some time. And while some may think that it would be better to have coach in place when those announcements come, I think it is may be necessary for the University to demonstrate its commitment to big-time football to attract the candidate Whit wants (and maybe keep them here longer than 3 years).

  • I get so annoyed with this idea of renovating Nippert. What are you actually going to accomplish by fixing traffic flow, bathrooms, and concessions other than that? The parking situation will still suck, there will still be a lack of a tailgating area, the concrete steps as poured will still kill leg room for anyone over 5'-7" tall even if you put in seats, the sitelines do suck in Nippert compared to most stadiums (Been to almost every SEC stadium and those kill), and oh yeah I almost forgot we'll still have the third smallest stadium in the ACC down there with the likes of Duke.

I'm sorry but if you guys want to join the big boys you're all going to have to get over your nostalgia and realize that in order to compete at the highest levels we have to seat more than Duke. You can't expand Nippert because of the underground utilities surrounding it and you can't fix the tailgating and parking proximity because of where it is at on campus. It's time for everyone to realize that Nippert has served it's purpose for an extremely long time and not throw good money after bad and tear it down and put a new basketball facility in it's place. Football games have to be moved to PBS sorry if we piss off Donato's and Pepsi/Coke in the process but it's time to move up in the world and utilize a tax payer funded stadium that would give us the fifth largest stadium in the ACC.

Get over this idea of Renovating or Expanding Nippert. You are the fans that make that Mark Twain comment about Cincinnati being where he wants to be at the end of the world since it's fifteen years behind the times. That or let's go to the MAC. It's your choice but please for the love of God realize that all you want to do is waste money by continuing to play there because I guarantee more fans that we currently don't get but need will show up at PBS long before they show up at Nippert because pure, plain, and simple the atmosphere will be substantially better.

You got a plan to negotiate with Mikey? Get our students on board down there?

You gotta talk to the man in order to work a deal with him. Make him cut back on his "cut" number one by letting him utilize our practice bubble when necessary. Package deals with his current box seat holders and the Bearcats. Express to him how helping out UC will help the Bengals out by showing the people of this City that they're not just about football. Remind him how the Bengals first utilized the Bearcats facilities when they started. Work with Marvin Lewis and Katie Blackburn also. There has to be some thread of decency in that man's body somewhere.

Yeah we get that. But instead of treating it like a non starter we should embrace it because it's what's best for then university. Figure out how to deal with Mike Brown.

The city has been so successful doing that too...
