Former All Everything LB Jeff Luc transfers from Florida State

How many transfers have we had in the past 2 years? How many of them have actually made it on the field? I give breaks but people need to keep the excitement to a minimum until the dude actually makes it on the field. Transfers are transfers for a reason.

If you don't to hear people excited about incoming recruits, transfer or otherwise, you're in the wrong spot.

In my life time, UC has never had this highly rated transfer from any school. I'll take a pass on propiety, this time, and be extremely excited!

You must have a short memory. Vidal Hazelton was the #1 rated wide receiver coming out of high school and rated as high as top 5 overall. Luc wasn't rated that high anywhere. Oddly enough, Hazelton had a similar time at USC. He was injured much of the time at USC and struggled to get on the depth chart because of it. Hopefully Luc has a better career at UC than Hazelton did.

Have we had that many transfers in the past two years? I can only remember a couple. We have had fairly good success with transfers over the past 5 years. Mauk obviously comes to mind. Alex Daniels did very well. Brandon Underwood was pretty good. Vidal Hazelton got on the field, but got injured very early in his only season. Its like a 50/50 shot that they'll be something great. Probably very similar to each recruiting class we have. I don't see why you have anything against people getting excited over a transfer. You do know this is a website based around recruiting right? Transfers are apart of the recruiting process.

Demetrius Jones, Ben Pooler, and Sam Longo are three others that come to mind.

Your right, although I was just as excited about him even though UC didn't need him as much. My memory is starting to resemble Joe Pa,s of Jerry Sandusky.
Luc was only the number two middle linebacker in the country coming out and only in the top five players in Florida.
Most services did rate Percy Harvin ahead of Hazelton in 2006. Not that we care.

Within the last two years, I think there would be only Sam Longo (Ohio State), Patrick White (Michigan State), Ben Pooler (Maryland) and Jordan Luallen (Georgia Tech).

-Longo is currently 2nd team but could see action this season
-White left the squad last spring
-Pooler quit the team during the 2011 season
-Luallen got some playing time last season and should get a lot more this year

    Others in recent years:
-Dorian Davis (Tennessee) was a bust that eventually either flunked out or quit the team.
-Ben Mauk (Wake Forest) is clearly the headliner for successful transfers.
-Brandon Underwood (Ohio State) was also a positive addition.
-Alex Daniels (Minnesota) was a starter, but I never felt he lived up to the lofty expectations.
-Vidal Hazelton (USC) was just a bad break with the injury, but he definitely would have helped.
-Demetrius Jones (Notre Dame) was a bust.

I understand both sides of the discussion.

In my opinion, there have been more recent UC transfers fall well below expectations than meet or exceed them. I think that has been the case with junior college signees as well especially since several of them never even made it to campus.

As far as Jeff Luc goes, the question is whether he'll be an upgrade from what UC will have returning for the 2013 season at inside linebacker. We know Bomar will be gone and so will Greg Blair so I think he will be.

  • Should we still expect another transfer to be announced this year?

I would rather him take a chance and fail here than take a chance at one of our Big East competitors such as Louisville. He certainly has the high school resume to get me excited about him. Plus he is coming from a big time program.

Who was the wunder transfer during dantonio's reign who didn't ever see the field? From Columbus st? He was probably our highest ranked transfer ever.

    Freddie Lennix (Cleveland Glenville).

Lennix didn't pan out but it was not because of a lack of ability. He had issues off the field.

  • Freddie Lenix wasnt a transfer he was an OSU commit that ended up going prep and commuting to UC. He was a 4 str recruit who was 25th or so best lb in his class. He wouldn't be better than luc or Hazelton and probably not Daniels or jones either, but those two bad mixed reviews about them.

If I remember right, it was also because of his field smarts. I think he had a hard time learning plays and understanding college ball. Talent-wise he was very good, but the mental part of it wasn't good for him.

I also don't remember him being that highly regarded out of high school. He may have been a four star player, but he wasn't anything like Hazelton or Luc. At the time he was the highest ranked player for us, but at OSU he probably wasn't even a top 5 player in their class. I'm not even sure if he was a top 100 player on most sites.

Agree, but I am pretty sure FUBAR was referring to Lennix.

Look I am excited about Luc. Some on here are saying we shouldn't get excited about transfers because they are at best a 50/50 proposition, but really is recruiting high schoolers that much different? We all know that 4 years from now some of the kids were are recruiting today that are considered a "can't miss recruit" will not succeed and one or two that are under the radar will end up being being a great player for us. You take the good with the bad. I enjoy the recruiting season and I consider picking up transfers part of the puzzle.
