Sure. People are paranoid and get carried away with the idea that someone or something is biased against them, even when the evidence doesn't always support it. ESPN isn't against anyone -- they are for whoever or whatever it is that can make them money. In a season somewhat lacking in compelling storylines, having an unbeaten Houston team led by a QB setting records like Keenum is makes for good TV.
I know a lot of people around here will disagree with that, as much bashing of ESPN as we've seen around here during this season. I just think it's a mistake of oversimplification to believe that ESPN will always go out of its way to screw the BE.

I hate to be a cynic ( it's far from my nature and I chide my kids for being negative ) BUT, I doubt this Gameday decision was built around this pending announcement. I give you 2 scenarios, and I hope I'm wrong with both, but I have come to realize that naiivity when it comes to the worldwide leader is not sound. Come to expect calculating moves.
1) Houston (and SMU for that matter) are still being talked about as possibles for the B12. Either now or the near future. ESPN has a HUGE stake in the B12's success and it's optics.
2) ESPN could be first to announce the New BE and then piss all over it. They don't like that the BE has an AQ. They are set against it. They constantly berrate the BE. I hope this will change but it would be inconsistent with their overall strategy.

I don't think ESPN is out to screw the BE at every turn, but I do think that ESPN will push their conference teams before the BE (if they really think they are going to NBC). After reading the ESPN book out a few months back, it showed me ESPN will step on toes to make a buck and don't/didn't really treat their employees that well. Expect if BE is on NBC, they will have little coverage on any of the ESPN platforms unless they are a breakout team that will sell copy.
I even believe about a month back a AD made a statement to the effect that you do not want to cross ESPN because that could really hurt your school.
They will discount the BE, because it is in their financial interest.

It isn't that ESPN needs to have a change of heart on an offer since the Big East turned down ESPN. ESPN had sole negotiating rights and the Big East wanted to see what they could get on the open market. If the Big East has so many big media markets and 2 service academies and BYU (along with the success of Boise) then this will bring in much more than the original offer.
