If CBJ goes, Narduzzi, Coombs, Diaco.....

I was referring to those listed in title of thread. I like the ones you continue to mention.

I was just messing with you anyway, hope you know that

Having narduzzi would be awesome. I always hated diaco

Not sure I understand the Diaco hate. Is it guilt by association with BK? He was only with UC for one year and has a great reputation. I don't understand why Narduzzi would be ok but Diaco would not. Both coached at UC and both left to coach somewhere else. I personally prefer someone with head coaching experience so am not necessarily advocating for Diaco but I don't think he would be the worst choice if they go the coordinator route.

Based on? His current defense is #1 in scoring defense, #4 in rushing defense, #21 in fewest passing yards, and #12 in pass efficiency defense. I wonder what would have happened if he and BK had stayed at UC???

OUR DEFENSE WOULD STILL SUCK. He tried running a 3-4 here with Big East lvl recruits. He was literally just warming up and practicing for ND, and it's plain obvious.

  • We need a bold pick that breaks the three year revolving door. That's why I think Tressel should be considered. America loves a redemption story.

  • I like Campbell from Toledo, he's an Ohio guy, born here, went to school here, and all of his coaching experience is in Ohio

I was thinking the same thing too.

Not that I'm saying I think Coombs should be a candidate, but, to counter your argument:

An EXTREMELY similar situation occurred with our current head basketball coach. There are some differences, BUT, he went to another program (a rival program in UofL) to gain some more experience as an assistant and when the time came he came back. It wasn't smooth, all things considered and some harbored ill feelings towards him even after he was hired as head coach for leaving but it helped him in the long run learning from one of the best in the business and because of that it's helped UC in the long run.

    Just a little perspective.

Ultimately I'm extremely confident in our leadership at the top level right now. That's why I'm not too concerned about any of this, regardless of what CBJ decides to do.

There may be some similarities but there is one HUGE difference:

Mick was already a HC at a D1 college program, Murray State. He had a proven record of success leading a program.

Coombs has NEVER been a head coach at a D1 college program. He does not have a proven record of succes leading a program.

Darrell Hazell from Kent State is my pick, if Butch goes.

Has Big East / Ohio State ties, Kent State doesn't have a long term viability compared to UC.

(or Tom O'Brien, who is from Cincinnati and is a St. X grad - and whose old DC just lost his job too...)

O'Brien was fired for not winning in the ACC the league UC is most likely to move to if they are invited to move anywhere. If O'Brien couldn't win in the ACC with NCST why should believe he would win in the ACC with UC?

What about Luke Fickell or Kliff Kingbury? Too young guys trying to make a name for themselves

I don't think Fickell would consider UC. He is a tOSU guy through and through.

Fulmer. A bit old at 62 but looking to get back into the coaching game.
Chizik. (kind of slimy with the Cam stuff though. I'd be afraid of him "bending" the rules to win.)

If UC moves to the ACC, southern recruiting would be more open to UC and advantageous to make a coaching hire with southern connections.

    1) I clearly stated at the top of my post, "Not that I'm saying I think Coombs should be a candidate."

    2) I reiterated as much a few posts later. I don't think Coombs should be a candidate- I was simply remarking at holding a grudge against someone because they left to coach at another school.

Reading Comprehension is a wonderful thing.

  • If we want a hc who is out in the public the bob diaco is out in my opinion. Guy didn't want to do a interview while he was here as a d-coord.

Why? I'm not trying to be contrarian. I would seriously be interested in knowing why people think he wouldn't be the right fit at UC.

  • If UC would hire someone without previous head coaching experience they would be taking a huge risk. UC cannot afford a losing record and program now when it is trying to sell itself to other leagues.

My reading comprehension is just fine thank you. You said there were differences. You did not extrapolate on what those differences were. You only discussed the similarities in that they were both asst coaches under successful coaches.

I expounded on the one huge difference.

Writing concisely to completely illustrate your point is a wonderful thing too.

There is no logical argument against Tressel aside from tattoogate or possibly his style of offense.
One could argue he might not be interested in UC but UC should be interested in him.

Obrien won at BC based heavily on his recruiting in the Cincinnati Catholic league. Convincing those kids to go to Raleigh was a lot tougher. He could also reunite with his old DC, who just left BC.

  • the other one I would pay attention to is the guy at Lousiana laf or monroe---I can't remember which one but he is a good coach and I have heard is on the radar

  • Why not Mike Stoops? Former HC at AZ, struggled a bit, but had to rebuild the program from scratch. Think he got the shaft a bit early.

Tressel is a wildcard. I think he would get kids here and recruit, but I worry about a clean program.

I'm not one for sacrificing a clean program for the sake of conference championships.
