  • I know some dont like them but anything that can get us closer to Oregon in terms of uniforms is a good thing imo. I'm not talking 500 or whatever possible combos but if you dont have a classic uni (PSU, Texas, Bama) these new age uni's should be explored. Its all about name recognition and appealing to future players and trust me, they love the Oregon/Nike Pro Combat threads. I think adidas has done a great job and I'm glad to see they are continuing to look at other options to enhance the Bearcat brand.

Nike is releasing Oregon's NC game uni's tomorrow and I guarantee there will be a lot of chatter on twitter and blogs about them

  • Is UC really getting this helmets or is this just one sitting on Coach Jones desk???

    stewcat54

  • ok where do you get one and I would also like to see a Red helment. I am not sure if they will use this due to the hard visabilty of the C paw even though I think it looks great.

  • I've often wondered if we could do something with our helmets - either a matte black (like this one), or some kind of a metallic finish red/black combo or somethng.

On a related note, I have noticed in the last couple years - this year more than ever - that teams who don't even have black as one of their colors (very few do besides us) are now using some form of black uni. I saw K-State hoops team the other day and they had black unis. WTF!? VT used lots of black in their opener against Boise this fall; Pitt and WV both had lots of black/grey in their uni in the backyard brawl a few weeks ago. It's getting out of hand. As soon as we made black popular, suddenly everyone else is jumping on board. I say there should be a rule that your uniforms must use the school colors, other than minor accents only. Give us back our trademark black! soapbox

  • In our backyard both Ohio State and Louisville incorporate black in some color combos when OSU is scarlet and gray and Louisville is red and white.

The Red this year did nothing for me, the shade was different from what I identify as tradtional red & black.

A matte finish black helmet with some incorporation of red in the body of the uniform, #s or lettering trimmed in white.

  • UL is actually red and black like us.

4,400 UCAT members. UL have 10k. Why haven't you joined? $50 minimum to start. Membership matters.

  • Wear 'em, recruits love this stuff. Ask Oregon about it.

  • I'm sorry but I'm a traditionalist. Our black with white C Paw and red underline is classic and identifiable. At some point or another we have to start building tradition around this program and other than Nippert, ( which is pretty polarizing ), we have none. I also say dreadful X 3.

Cash, I think that's part of the problem. When helmets/uni's are believed to be such an important part of prospcets deciding on a school, that in itself is a sad state of affairs. However, if this is all about recruiting, then way stop with helmets, just let the incoming recruiting class decide what the next year's uniforms will look like.

I'm an Oregon fan, but I think Oregon is doing better in recruiting because of money and lots of it- not necessary those ridiculous looking uniforms that change every week. I thought part of business was branding and wanting people to identify your product due to that brand.

I'm not sure why we should even havce school colors any more if teams can go out and wear any colors they want. We might as well change the colors every year to whatever is the "in" color.

I know I'm in the minority since I'm a traditionalist, and I'm wasting my time in threads like this but I guess I also like to at least give my opinion.

  • Sorry but recruits don't care about tradition and what happened 50 years ago and frankly the majority of UC's football tradition isn't exactly something to brag about. The last 5 years is what's molding the tradition and kids want what's hip and cool, if they can't get it at UC there are dozens of other places they can. Uni's aren't that important but they matter for sure. It helps Oregon recruit and I'm all for anything that might give us an edge

  • Dave, I think winning, graduating players, and running a program without a lot of off-the-field issues can give a program all the edge it needs, with winning lapping the other two several times.

Uniforms or helmets may play a role for some kids. Speaking from personal experience, in seven years of doing this I have had a few mention they liked UC uniforms or colors. However, I don't think any of them actually attended UC, and I always left their comments about uniforms out of stories because I was a bit embarassed for them.

It really doesn't matter what canuck or I think anyway although I hear OSU's fans have had a fit when the administration has tinkered with their uniforms. I respect the Buckeye fans for that, and Michigan has never had a lot of recruiting difficulty with those archaic helmets they wear (neither has Delaware). I love those things.

I guess if UC feels they need these kinds of gimmicks to attract recruits, then so be it, but I just wonder what kind of characters they'll be attracting.

  • It certainly hasn't affected Syracuse, Alabama, or PSU, 3 of the more bland uniforms in the country, yet in their blandness, 3 of the most crisp and identifiable.

    Canuckcat

  • I'm going to have to agree with Tim and canuk. That helmet is total garbage....whats the point of even having the C paw on there when you can't even see it. Oregon has the silver uniforms and the kids names are in silver as well, and when I saw it I immediately thought it looked like trash. If you ask most of the people that play UC they love our uniforms, especially our colors. I wouldn't change a thing. UC has some of the sharpest uniforms in college football.

Although, I'll agree recruits are going to love gear. If you wanna wear these helmets at practice or something that seems ok to me, but wearing them during a game may make me throw up.

I get the "oregon" argument, but that only works to a certain extent. Oregon is getting the players they are getting because they are rolling people on a weekly basis, not because there uniform selection. In fact, you hear every week the the guys on espn are poking fun at what ridiculous combination they are coming up with.

Really? I actually thought they were red and white.

  • "Here we go" makes a point worth repeating - how can you "represent the C" if you can't even see it ? I think our unis are pretty progressive as it is with the claw marks down the sides and the eyes on the back and the interchangeable 3 dominant colors. Just stay away from the all black helmets and the white helmets. Red Helms is allowed to join because he was grandfathered in last year !!! ( BCL inside joke for those of you newer guys ) .
