What if OSU?

  • Alright I know this may be a stretch but hear me out. I hear a lot of people talking about how OSU silently dreads UC becoming a power to rival it in the state right? What if OSU (which is one of the powerful school in the Big Ten) Help orchestrate Rutgers being taken away? Big ten has massive schools with extremely large student populations. Their alumni bases have tremendous amounts of people not even counting people who just root for the Big Ten in general. Their base extends to the four corners of the country. Their tv deal is worth I believe it's in the mid 30 million range. So why do they need extend east? Maryland isn't in NY neither is Jersey and people in NY don't really watch Rutgers a whole lot. If they really wanted a footprint in NY they could have taken SU before they lost their AAU status. I also think Syracuse would have been a better B10 school.

Essentially what I am saying is what if Ohio State help orchestrate the situation. They knew that Rutgers would be the final piece that destroys the Big East and send UC back into irrelevancy. Why wouldn't Urban Meyer help out his undergraduate University? They are not in the same conference and his sister works here. I believe he even played football here. I think it goes further than him making that decision on his own I think Ohio State decided to make that decision. OSU Urban Meyers team now and he looking for the best interest of OSU and the best interest is to get UC out the big picture. That way they can stop answering questions about why they won't play UC because UC is not irrelevant. Also this is a recruiting hotbed and they don't need UC to get to the point where they are pulling 4 and 5 stars out of the area.

Let's be honest UC was better than every team that was poached and had more upside then every time that have gotten taken away from the conference. They also traveled better to bowl games which shows if there are marquee teams you would get at least 10,000 UC fans to show up to certain games every season. They weren't losing nothing from picking up UC instead of the other schools.

NO in state University treat their neighboring schools quite as bad as OSU treat it's Ohio public University brethren. I believe UC is being blocked. Just my humble Opinion.

  • Wouldn't shock me, but then again I see this as precisely the reason for another conference to grab us.

The more of these conspiracy theories we put out, the sillier we sound. Sorry.

  • I would say you are 100% correct. Personally I think Suburban Meyer could care less about UC. I have never heard him say anything positive about UC. UC won 4 BE titles two out right none of the 5 schools that have gone to ACC, B10 or B12 can say that. Sooner or later two BE teams are going to a "big 5" B12 needs a conf. championship game to have a one lose team in playoff. I am sure they will look east. I doubt Boise or BYU gets an invite. Most likely 2 to 6 ACC teams are going. If the next two ACC teams do not include FSU then UC is in. If FSU goes then USF and UCONN are in.

  • Forget all these UC to the ACC/B1G/Big XII shenanigans. I say SEC all the way!

Calm down. I know its not going to happen but it would be pretty awesome. Especially if UC could get in the same division as UK, UT, and Vandy. Three games that would easily be in driving distance.

OSU doesn't *dread* UC becoming a "power" in the state. Really. OSU owns the friggin' state and there is no way that UC will ever rival OSU and they know it.

There is a similar argument in West Virginia by Marshall fans (ie. WVU deliberately is keeping Marshall "down" because they don't want an in-state rival). After living in the Huntington area and now living in Morgantown, I can pretty much say that's complete BS. WVU doesn't go around looking over their shoulder at Marshall... Frankly, they don't even take notice of Marshall on most days. WVU is the "flagship" school of the state and Marshall isn't. WVU gets pretty much whatever they want, not because they need to "keep Marshall down" but because they are the alpha-dog University and Marshall is the runt of the litter.

Now I don't think UC is the runt of the Ohio state colleges. But there is one "THE" Ohio State University. There will always only be one. We may hate it, but OSU doesn't spend any more time worrying about UC's ascension than an elephant worries about flies.

Not downing UC. But we have to realize our own value and wealth based on our own love of the school and not based upon what others think of us.

    I disagree.

Funding from the state of Ohio to the state universities is disproportionately given to tOSU in an effort to keep them the only state flagship. It is the outcome of the unholy alliance between tOSU and the statehouse due to their sharing the same city with perks going back and forth between the two entities. So while it might not necessarily be tOSU looking over their shoulders, there are those in state government looking out for tOSU and there is a concerted effort to keep them the flagship at the expense of the other universities.

Why the state of Ohio can't have more than one major university like many other states is mind boggling. You would think the state would be trying to enhance its other universities not hurt them in order to grow the state's overall academic reputation and lure top talent to Ohio.

If Mississippi, Indiana, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, California, Alabama, Oregon, Washington, Michigan, etc. can figure out how to support two or more major public universities on equal footing Ohio should be able to figure it out.
