Mick commented about that within the last week. I think he said Shaq was 190+-. And I think he said he has put on 15-20 lbs. those numbers are likely off by a little bit, but that is how I remember it.

From what I have seen I would say Ellis is certainly the most skilled big of the guys that will be in the program next year. He has already grown 2 inches since getting to UC and is the tallest guy on the team with maybe another inch or two left to grow. I wouldn't be surprised to see him playing the 5 spot if he continues to add strength because of his length and athleticism.
Shaq has looked really good from what I have seen, but still struggles getting his jumper above line drive status. He will change the dynamic of the team next year with his ability to rebound from the 3 spot alone. While SK has been solid on the glass for his size, Shaq will make it easier to run this system because not only can he hit the glass, but he doesn't have to give it up to push tempo the other way...

Wow, Ellis is 6'11 now?
I was very impressed with the few minutes I saw Ellis on the court in the early games of the schedule. He was very fluid for his size, could handle the ball, played hard and focused and you could tell he had potential to be an inside out type of player. Throw in his long arms and him growing, the kid could become quite a wild card.
Can't wait for Shaq. He will be a major upgrade in athletic ability at the 3 spot for us. Hopefully that jump shot will see major improvement this off season. From his videos, I've just loved his intensity and desire to go attack the rim.
I always cringe a bit when people tell me that a freshman or redshirt freshman is going to come in and start all of sudden. I think JJ will be battling pretty hard to earn a consistent starting spot next year. If JJ finds at least a mid range jump shot this summer and gains his usual muscle, this kid will be a very tough match up for many teams at the 4 spot. Currently his biggest weakness is that bigger guys can guard him because he has no jumpshot which takes away his good post game. I'm excited about Ellis but right now I'm going with the expectation that JJ will receive most of the minutes at the 4 position.
IMO we will need another solid 5 man (i'm not counting on Ellis to be a 5 yet) for next year. I would still like to see that last scholarship go to either a talented pg or an athletic wing player. If not then pocket the thing for a better 2013 haul.

there is a big difference between hyping up an upperclassman who has several years of experience in the program and big east and a redshirt freshman.
if it makes people sleep better at night knowing we have a guy like shaq who "should be starting" unavailable on the bench- then I'm all for it. however, shaq thomas would not be starting over anyone in the current lineup, and he will have to unseat a 4th year player next year to get a starting nod.

Regardless of if Shaq starts or not, he's one of the few guys on this team that could be a super star. Personally, I don't care who starts and I'm certainly not going to try to predict how long it'll take Shaq to put it all together - but it shouldn't be thrown out of consideration.
