Blake Corum 2005 RB
Rams' Blake Corum: Adds competition for Kyren Williams
4m agoThe Rams selected Corum in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 83rd overall.
This is an interesting pairing as Los Angeles found a diamond in the rough in Kyren Williams in 2022, but Corum was likely the best player available at this stage. Corum had a storied career at Michigan with 3,736 rushing yards on 675 rushes (5.5 YPC) and a whopping 58 rushing scores, including 27 in his senior season. He's a stout back at a shade under 5-foot-8 and 205 pounds who doesn't have blazing speed but has tremendous vision and runs with exceptional toughness to pick up yards. Pass-catching won't be his meal ticket in the NFL but it doesn't need to be with Williams picking up that part of the offense. Corum is a threat to take carries from Williams right out of the gate and while this strengthens the Rams backfield significantly, handicapping this backfield will be a headache for fantasy managers.

Calen Bullock 2005 S
Texans' Calen Bullock: Reeled in by Houston in the third
4m agoThe Texans selected Bullock in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 78th overall.
Bullock was a safety at USC and could very well stick there in the NFL, but at just 6-foot-2, 188 pounds he risks getting clobbered in run defense if he doesn't add any weight. There are at least two bits of good news on this, though. The first is that Bullock might have the skill set to play at corner anyway, and at that position he'd have close to the ideal frame for press coverage. The second is that Bullock is still young, turning 21 on April 30. If Bullock were something more like 200 pounds in a year or two it wouldn't be shocking, and at that point he'd have a more conventional safety frame.

Jonah Elliss 2005 EDGE
Broncos' Jonah Elliss: Picked by Denver in third round
11m agoThe Broncos selected Elliss in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 76th overall.
The son of former standout NFL defensive tackle Luther Elliss, Jonah is much smaller at 6-foot-2, 248 pounds and will therefore look more like an edge-rushing specialist in the NFL. Elliss' production at Utah implies the presence of a standout skill set, because he just turned 21 in April yet produced 12.0 sacks and 16 tackles for loss in just 10 games last year. Unfortunately, he was unable to do much pre-draft athletic testing as he recovered from a torn shoulder labrum.
-
Christian Haynes 2005 IOL
Seahawks' Christian Haynes: Slide stops in Seattle
11m agoThe Seahawks selected Haynes in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 81st overall.
There's little information as to why Haynes was still available this late in the draft. He started 49 straight games at guard for Connecticut and tested well at the combine with strong jumps and a 5.0-second 40 at 317 pounds. Haynes projects as an immediate challenger for the starting right guard spot for the Seahawks.
-
Matt Goncalves 2005 OT
Colts' Matt Goncalves: Heading to Indy
18m agoThe Colts selected Goncalves in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 79th overall.
Goncalves had a chance to go much higher in the draft if he was able to stay healthy for his redshirt senior season at Pittsburgh, but a left foot injury kept him out for nine games plus the combine. He was able to test at Pitt's Pro Day and did not have a standout workout, but his body of work in college paints him as a seasoned lineman who can play either tackle spot. Some scouts project him as a guard, and that's his clearest path to playing time in Indianapolis with the current tackle personnel.
-
Bralen Trice 2005 EDGE
Falcons' Bralen Trice: Atlanta selects in round three
20m agoThe Falcons selected Trice in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 74th overall.
Trice evidently played at over 270 pounds for Washington, where he was the team's leading pass rusher the last two years, but he slimmed down to just 245 before the combine, presumably with the hopes of running faster. To run just a 4.72-second 40 at that weight is a pretty big disappointment, as it raises the concern that Trice would run something more like a 4.9-second 40 at his real playing weight. Trice seems skilled as an edge rusher and certainly has the motor, but his tools grade is not that of a starter and puts a lot of pressure on his technique development.

Yandy Diaz TB 1B
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Exits after HBP
34m agoDiaz was removed from Friday's game against the White Sox after getting hit by a pitch, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Diaz took a 99-mph fastball off his hand during the eighth inning of Friday's contest and was immediately replaced on the bases. He will presumably undergo imaging, and the Rays should offer an update on his status sometime after the game.

Dominic Canzone SEA LF
Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Throwing and running
1h agoCanzone (shoulder) began a throwing and running program Friday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
General manager Justin Hollander added that the team hopes for Canzone to begin a hitting progression sometime next week, though he is still several weeks out from full baseball activities. The 26-year-old outfielder sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder April 14, and Hollander's comments suggest he is not close to returning anytime soon. Luke Raley and Jonatan Clase should continue splitting time in left field while Canzone works his way back.
-
J.P. Crawford SEA SS
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Likely won't return when eligible
1h agoGeneral manager Justin Hollander said Friday that Crawford (oblique) likely won't be activated from the injured list when he's eligible May 5, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Crawford was placed on the injured list Thursday with a Grade 1 oblique strain -- the least severe type of strain -- though it appears the 29-year-old shortstop is still facing an extended absence. Hollander didn't provide an exact timeline for Crawford's return, but a 2-to-3 week absence seems to be the best possible scenario.

Alex Cobb SF SP
Giants' Alex Cobb: Pauses throwing program
3h agoCobb (hip/elbow/shoulder) has been held back from throwing for the last few days due to soreness in his right shoulder, and he is set to see a team doctor Friday night, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.comreports.
Cobb was shifted to the 60-day IL on April 20 to give him more time to recover from his multiple ailments. He underwent left hip surgery in the offseason and was progressing through his rehab assignment following spring training, but he has suffered another setback with right shoulder soreness this time. Cobb's visit with the team doctor Friday night should give him and the Giants a better idea of the next steps forward in his rehab schedule.
-
Jasson Dominguez NYY CF
Yankees' Jasson Dominguez: Throwing from 135 feet
4h agoYankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Dominguez (elbow) has increased his throwing distance to 135 feet, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Dominguez continues to progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery from last September, and Boone noted that the 21-year-old is "a few weeks" away from playing in a minor-league rehab game. Dominguez appeared in eight games with the Yankees last season, going 8-for-31 with four home runs and seven RBI over that span.
-
Kyle Nicolas PIT RP
Pirates' Kyle Nicolas: Recalled by Pittsburgh
4h agoThe Pirates recalled Nicolas from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Nicolas ended the 2023 season as part of the Pirates' bullpen. He struggled in his four outings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out seven over 5.1 frames. Nicolas has looked better in Triple-A this season, posting a 0.84 ERA and 2.06 WHIP over 10.2 innings, and he'll get another shot in Pittsburgh's bullpen. The move corresponds with Ryder Ryan being optioned by the Pirates to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
-
Royce O'Neale PHO PF
Suns' Royce O'Neale: Starting Game 3
32m agoO'Neale will start Friday's Game versus the Timberwolves, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports.
Grayson Allen (ankle) will sit out Game 3, but he's considered day-to-day and could be back for Game 4 on Sunday. In 14 starts during the regular season, O'Neale averaged 10.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.9 three-pointers.
-
Grayson Allen PHO SG
Suns' Grayson Allen: Won't play Friday
1h agoAllen (ankle) will not play in Friday's Game 3 versus the Timberwolves.
This is a tough blow for the Suns, as Allen has been key to Phoenix's floor spacing this season. He was able to get in a limited practice Thursday and is considered day-to-day, so the Suns could potentially get him back for Game 4 on Sunday. Eric Gordon and Royce O'Neale are candidates to see increased run in the meantime.
-
Kyle Anderson MIN SF
Timberwolves' Kyle Anderson: Available to play
2h agoAnderson (hip) is available for Friday's Game 3 versus the Suns, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports.
Fantasy managers should exercise caution before plugging Anderson into lineups, as the forward didn't touch the floor despite being cleared to play in Game 2. It remains to be seen if he'll rejoin the rotation for Game 3.
-
Khris Middleton MIL SF
Bucks' Khris Middleton: Shines with 40-point double-double
2h agoMiddleton recorded 42 points (16-29 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 10 rebounds and five assists over 41 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Middleton did all he could to help lead Milwaukee to an overtime victory, including hitting the game-tying shot at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime and also tying the game late in overtime, but his 40-point double-double was spoiled in a losing effort. Middleton led all players in Friday's contest in scoring while ending as one of two Bucks with 10 or more rebounds to go along with a handful of assists in a well-rounded outing. If Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) remains out in Game 4, look for Middleton to continue to provide a lift to Milwaukee offensively in the quarterfinals series.
-
Damian Lillard MIL PG
Bucks' Damian Lillard: Nears 30 points despite injury
2h agoLillard posted 28 points (6-20 FG, 4-12 3Pt, 12-12 FT), eight assists, three steals and one rebound over 45 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Despite leaving Friday's game briefly with a knee injury, Lillard finished the Game 3 contest while leading all Bucks players in assists and ending two points shy of the 30-point mark to provide a boost offensively in a losing effort. Lillard, who was perfect from the free-throw line to go along with a team-high-tying mark from three, has posted at least 28 points in all three games of the quarterfinals. It will be worth monitoring Lillard's status ahead of Game 4 and if he has an issues with his left knee that limits his availability.
-
Bobby Portis MIL PF
Bucks' Bobby Portis: Owns glass in double-double showing
2h agoPortis finished with 17 points (7-15 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 18 rebounds, one block and one steal over 44 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Portis dominated the boards in Friday's contest, leading all players in rebounds while finishing as one of two Bucks with a double-double in a losing effort in overtime. Portis has stepped in nicely while Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) continuing to miss time, recording a double-double in all three games in the quarterfinals thus far. Portis will continue to remain in the starting lineup until Antetokounmpo is able to return, but will become a key player off of Milwaukee's bench if the two-time MVP does come back for Game 4 or at some point in the series against Indiana.
-
Spencer Stastney NSH D
Predators' Spencer Stastney: Exits Friday's contest
22m agoStastney (upper body) will not return to Friday's game against the Canucks.
Stastney logged just 6:36 before suffering an injury Friday. He's been held without a point in five straight games dating back to the regular season. An update on his status should be available before Game 4 on Sunday.
-
Stuart Skinner EDM G
Oilers' Stuart Skinner: Tending twine Friday
29m agoSkinner will get the starting nod for Game 3 in Los Angeles on Friday, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.
Skinner has struggled so far this postseason, coughing up nine goals on 63 shots in two games. Including his final start of the regular season, he's 1-2-0 with an unsightly .829 save percentage over his last three outings. Skinner went 13-10-2 with an .894 save percentage and a 2.80 GAA in 27 road appearances during the regular season.
-
Samuel Girard COL D
Avalanche's Samuel Girard: Good to go Friday
1h agoGirard (concussion) is in the lineup for Game 3 against Winnipeg on Friday, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports.
Girard will return after missing the last four games. The 25-year-old was held without a point over his final 10 appearances in the regular season. He tallied three goals and 18 points in 59 games this season.
-
Trevor van Riemsdyk WAS D
Capitals' Trevor van Riemsdyk: Exits Friday's contest
2h agoVan Riemsdyk (upper body) will not return to Friday's game against the Rangers.
Van Riemsdyk took a huge hit against the boards that resulted in an interference penalty by Matt Rempe. Van Riemsdyk immediately left the ice and returned to the locker room. He logged 3:27 of ice time prior to getting injured. An update on his status should be available before Game 4 on Sunday.
-
Nick Jensen WAS D
Capitals' Nick Jensen: Unavailable Friday
4h agoJensen (upper body) will not suit up against the Rangers on Friday, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.
Jensen has now missed five straight games. The veteran blueliner tallied 14 points in 78 games during the regular season. He could return for Game 4 on Sunday.
-
Rasmus Sandin WAS D
Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Out Friday
4h agoSandin (upper body) will not play Friday against the Rangers, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.
Sandin will miss his eighth consecutive game Friday. The 24-year-old was considered a game-time call Friday, so he should have a good chance at returning Sunday for Game 4 versus New York.
